On the afternoon of 6/8, Gia Dinh People's Hospital activated its mass emergency protocol. Personnel from the emergency department, intensive care - toxicology, internal respiratory medicine, pediatrics, neonatology, and other specialties were mobilized to receive, triage, and treat the victims.
The hospital received 5 individuals from a fire on the evening of 5/8 at a house on Nguyen Cuu Van street, Gia Dinh ward. A 19-year-old man, suffering from smoke inhalation and respiratory tract burns, is under observation in the intensive care unit. A 58-year-old woman with mild smoke inhalation is receiving treatment in the internal respiratory medicine department. Two young children, a 10-day-old infant and a child nearly 2 years old, are in stable condition; the infant has since been discharged at the family's request. Just hours later, around 5h on 6/8, the hospital admitted three victims from a house fire on Nguyen Van Dau street, Binh Loi Trung ward. A 40-year-old father and his 12-year-old son, who had experienced cardiac and respiratory arrest from smoke inhalation and respiratory tract burns before reaching the hospital, did not survive. The 38-year-old wife is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit, is conscious, and receives high-flow oxygen.
Police reported that the house contained many flammable items, including clothes and wooden cabinets, which generated a large amount of toxic smoke. The lack of ventilation on the upper floor caused smoke to accumulate, forcing rescue teams to access the area from the second-floor roof to locate victims.
