This information was provided by Colonel Bui Tuan Anh, deputy director of the Criminal Police Department (C02) under the Ministry of Public Security, on 2/7.
According to Colonel Bui Tuan Anh, football betting activities are widespread in Vietnam, particularly online. This trend often leads to other criminal activities. In response, the Ministry of Public Security initiated a high-intensity campaign during the World Cup 2026 period to combat these offenses.
During the investigations, police seized assets and vehicles connected to the cases. Authorities are continuing to broaden their investigations into both individual and organized betting operations.
Beyond betting, the issue of online copyright infringement for football tournaments is also challenging. Perpetrators frequently change domain names, utilize overseas servers, employ anonymity services, use intermediate platforms, and apply multiple technical layers to conceal their identities.
Additionally, from 7/5 to 19/6, economic police initiated 90 cases involving 142 defendants for intellectual property crimes. These included: 10 cases with 43 defendants for copyright and related rights infringement; 58 cases with 71 defendants for industrial property rights infringement; and 22 cases with 28 defendants for producing and trading counterfeit goods. Police also seized assets valued at 94 billion VND.
