6th-grade boy cries for help, suspected of being abused by father and stepmother

Seeing her nephew run into the street with a bruised face, swollen eyes, crying repeatedly, and begging to stay, his aunt took him home for examination and discovered multiple injuries.

On the evening of 13/5, a leader from Van Du commune stated that police are working with the boy's father and stepmother to verify the incident. Several items, including a whip and a bed slat, have been seized for the investigation.

According to relatives, at approximately 7h on 12/5, while taking her child to school, Phan Thi Tuyet, 43, the boy's paternal aunt, saw her nephew run towards her in a panicked state, with a bruised face and swollen eyes, crying continuously and pleading to stay with her.

After taking her nephew home to check, Ms. Tuyet discovered multiple bruises on the boy's arms, legs, and around his eyes. In a video she posted on social media, the boy cried as he recounted that his injuries were from being beaten by his father and stepmother in the preceding days.

Ms. Tuyet stated that she had previously seen signs of abuse on her nephew on multiple occasions. "One time, he came to my house with a bruised face, and the family explained it was due to falling off a bike or slipping in the bathroom," she said, adding that she had previously asked the residential group to intervene and demand that the father commit to not beating his child.

The family reported that after his parents divorced approximately 8 years ago, the boy lived with his father, while his younger sibling lived with their mother. In 2024, the father remarried and had another child.

This afternoon, the boy's biological mother returned to the locality to care for her child. The boy is currently staying with his paternal aunt while authorities verify the incident.

The boy is a 6th-grade student at Dai Minh Secondary School in Van Du commune (Yen Thanh area). On 12/5, he missed his final exams. The school's board of directors stated they are aware of the information and will cooperate with the family to provide support and psychological stability, helping him return to school soon.
