32-year-old Thang has been prosecuted and detained for robbery under Article 168 of the 2015 Criminal Code, the People's Procuracy of Area 11, Hai Phong, announced on 20/8.
Initial investigations reveal that around 9 PM on 8/8, after multiple failed attempts to collect a debt, Thang brought a handgun, a knife, and a plastic pipe to a vacant lot behind his house to confront the young man who owed him money.

When the debtor refused to pay and challenged him, Thang fired a warning shot into the air. He then repeatedly slashed the victim's left wrist and elbow with the knife. The victim was subsequently treated at Hai Duong General Hospital.
The following day, Thang surrendered to the Gia Loc Commune Police, handing over the revolver and the approximately 29-cm knife.
Authorities confirmed that Thang used a handgun loaded with live ammunition. If forensic analysis determines the weapon is military-grade, Thang could face additional charges of illegal possession and use of military weapons under Article 304 of the Criminal Code, in addition to the robbery charge.
