Chien, an obstetrician-gynecologist at Dinh Quan Regional General Hospital, also operated a private clinic at his home in Phu Loi commune, former Dinh Quan district (now Phu Hoa commune).
According to the indictment, on the afternoon of 28/12/2024, a 31-year-old woman visited Chien's clinic suspecting she was pregnant. After performing an ultrasound, Chien scheduled a follow-up appointment for the following week to discuss treatment options. However, the next morning, Chien called the patient and asked her to return that afternoon.
Chien performed another ultrasound and then asked the woman to move to the gynecological examination room. As she turned her back to get onto the examination table, Chien suddenly restrained her and locked the door. The victim struggled and screamed, but was unable to prevent the assault. She subsequently reported the incident to the police.
During the initial investigation, Chien denied using force and claimed the encounter was consensual. However, he confessed after being presented with evidence by the prosecuting authorities.
At today's hearing, the People's Procuracy proposed a sentence of 30 to 36 months. A previous trial on 14/8 was postponed due to the victim's health.
