Man arrested for fraudulently selling land with fake certificates

Thai Thanh Chuong admitted to forging 8 land use right certificates in his name, defrauding 8 individuals, and appropriating 6,2 billion VND.

On 17/10, the Quang Tri Provincial Police Investigation Agency announced the indictment of Thai Thanh Chuong, 33, residing in Kim Phu commune, for fraudulent appropriation of property and forging documents of agencies and organizations.

According to the investigation, in early September, Chuong conceived the idea of fraud. He then went online to purchase 8 fake land use right certificates in his name.

On 17/9, Chuong advertised a plot of land for a low price. Trusting the documents, a woman agreed to buy it for 250 million VND. After receiving payment, both parties signed a deposit contract. Chuong then handed over a fake land use right certificate and scheduled the notarized transfer of ownership for one month later.

On 29/9, Chuong again advertised another plot of land for 400 million VND. The same woman agreed to purchase it, transferring 350 million VND upfront. Chuong provided another fake certificate, setting 5/10 for the notarized transfer of ownership. On the scheduled date, the victim realized she had been deceived and reported the incident to authorities.

During the expanded investigation, Chuong confessed to using similar methods to defraud three other individuals, appropriating approximately 5,6 billion VND.
