According to the investigation, around 17h30 on 31/12/2025, a 67-year-old woman from Nguyet Vien ward, Thanh Hoa, was walking along National Highway 1A, waiting for a bus to Bien Thuong commune. At that time, Huy drove a Hyundai Tucson with a fake license plate, pulled alongside her, and introduced himself, offering her a ride as he was conveniently heading towards Vinh Loc.
After traveling about 45 km, the car reached a secluded area in Dong Muc hamlet, Bien Thuong commune. There, Huy unexpectedly turned into an empty lot, pulled out a knife, and threatened the victim. He used zip ties to bind her hands, stole 10,5 million VND and a pair of gold earrings, then drove off.
Upon receiving the report, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police identified this as a serious case and mobilized forces from various specialized units to track down the suspect. Late on 1/1, criminal police, in coordination with traffic police, arrested Huy while he was traveling on National Highway 1A, passing through Quang Trung ward, approximately 40 km from the crime scene.
During interrogation, Huy confessed he committed the robbery because he needed money for personal expenses and to pay off debts.
