On 30/7, the An Giang Provincial People's Court sentenced Truong to life in prison for murder.

In late 2024, Truong began living with his girlfriend and her two children (aged 5 and 3) in Long Thanh ward, Tan Chau town (formerly Tan Chau district).
On the afternoon of 24/3, the 5-year-old boy cried for his mother. Truong, irritated by the child's crying, pulled him into a bedroom and beat him, stopping only when the boy’s mother intervened. The boy subsequently developed a fever, but the family did not seek medical treatment.
Two days later, while Truong was taking the boy to preschool on his motorbike, the child lost consciousness. Only then did Truong take the victim to the hospital, but the boy died before arrival.
Truong and the boy's mother hastily buried the victim and then informed the boy's father. Suspecting his son had been abused, the father contacted the police and requested an exhumation to determine the cause of death.
A forensic examination revealed numerous injuries, including a fractured jaw, a ruptured liver and spleen, and determined the cause of death to be hemorrhagic shock.
Truong confessed to his crime and turned himself in on 27/3.
