A court in Tay Ninh province has sentenced Kien Huu Tin, 37, to two years and six months in prison for property theft, the verdict delivered on 16/9.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of 14/1 when Tin was driving on National Highway 1. Spotting a wedding reception as he passed a rice warehouse in Khanh Hau ward, he stopped. He placed a rock in his pocket, then entered the venue, pretending to be a guest, and began eating and drinking.

Tin noticed a wedding gift envelope box in the room, where only the bride was present. He then asked a young boy to tell the bride that the groom wanted to speak with her outside. Believing the message, the bride left the room. Tin quickly snuck in, used the rock to break open the box, and took all the envelopes inside.

After obtaining 93 million dong, Tin transferred 15 million dong to his girlfriend. That same evening, he took his girlfriend shopping, purchasing gold bracelets and earrings for over 16 million dong, and two phones for over 23 million dong. He also gave some money to his parents.

The following afternoon, police apprehended Tin when he went to a money transfer point to send another 21 million dong to his personal account.
