On 10/8, Nguyen Tan Loi, Nguyen Hoang My, Le Minh Toan, and Tran Phuc Hau, aged 22-46, were temporarily detained by the Criminal Police of Can Tho City Police. They are being investigated for dog theft and shooting a police officer.
Around 1:00 AM on 8/8, an An Thanh Commune Police task force was patrolling Phuoc Hoa A hamlet. They noticed Loi's group riding two motorbikes, carrying large sacks, and exhibiting suspicious behavior.
When asked to stop for inspection, the group refused. They threw their sacks aside and sped off.
During the pursuit, one individual used a homemade gun, typically used for dog theft, to fire at the task force. Lieutenant Tran Ngoc Loi was hit in the right chest. The group then continued their escape.
Lieutenant Loi's colleagues rushed him to Can Tho Central General Hospital for emergency treatment. His condition is stable and not life-threatening.
