In the early morning of 3/9, after drinking alcohol with a group of friends, Duc Anh brought a knife to his girlfriend's house, but the door was locked. The young man went around to the back, climbed onto the roof, and pried open a skylight window to break in. At this time, Dinh Van Rung, the girl's father, heard a noise, turned on the light, discovered him, and spoke to him, but Duc Anh continued prying open the skylight window and declared he would kill the entire family.
Fearing for his safety, Mr. Rung locked all doors and called the police. Unable to enter the girl's house, the suspect climbed over the roof of Nguyen Viet Quang, 40, then opened a second-floor door and broke into his house. Hearing a disturbance, Mr. Quang went to investigate and discovered Duc Anh descending the stairs to the ground floor.
Seeing the homeowner, the suspect, armed with a knife, lunged to attack. The victim ran to the kitchen to grab a knife to defend himself but was severely stabbed, so he dropped the knife, opened the door, and ran out onto the street. The perpetrator continued to chase him for about 20 meters, striking him multiple times, causing Mr. Quang to collapse on the street. Afterward, he returned to the house, locked the gate, and stormed into a bedroom, attacking Ho Thi Mai, 36, her 11-year-old son, and her 2-year-old daughter.
