On 29/6, the Dong Thap Provincial Traffic Police Department announced that four drivers admitted their violations and paid the fines.
Hau Phi Cuong, 53 years old, was fined 1,2 million VND and had two points deducted from his driver's license for carrying passengers without helmets and exceeding the limit of three people.
The three remaining drivers, Nguyen Van Muoi Hai, 48 years old, Dang Tan Viet, 25 years old, and Dang Van Son, 47 years old, faced additional charges of operating without a driver's license and vehicle registration. Each was fined 10,7 million VND, had two points deducted from their driver's license, and had their vehicle confiscated.
The incident occurred on the morning of 7/6 when a 50-year-old man residing in My Loi commune organized his daughter's wedding. Afterward, the groom's family, from the same locality, hired four three-wheeled vehicles, each costing 200.000 VND, for the procession.
The convoy then returned on National Highway 1, heading towards the Mekong Delta. Many young men and women on the vehicles were not wearing helmets and were cheering loudly, an act captured in an approximately 30-second video by passersby and circulated on social media.
"We admit wrongdoing, but the act was primarily spontaneous and not intended to incite anyone", said a representative of the family who hired the vehicles.
After receiving reports, the Traffic Police Department requested the Dong Thap Provincial Traffic Police Department to verify the incident and handle the matter strictly.
