Woman fined for fabricating robbery story

A 28-year-old woman, fearing family disapproval after pawning her phone to cover debts, fabricated a story about a bag snatching incident.

Thong Nhat Ward Police fined a 28-year-old woman from Pleiku ward VND 3,5 million on 17/3 for providing false information to authorities.

About a week prior to the fine, the woman reported to police that two unknown individuals had snatched her handbag on Yet Kieu street. She claimed the bag contained an iPhone 16 Pro Max phone and cash.

However, an investigation, which included a review of security camera footage on relevant streets, found no evidence of a robbery. Authorities noted numerous inconsistencies in the woman's statements.

Confronted with the overwhelming evidence, the woman admitted to fabricating the story. She confessed that due to financial difficulties, she had pawned her phone to pay debts and cover personal expenses, then concocted the robbery tale to conceal the situation from her family.
