On 17/3, the Dong Nai Provincial People's Court sentenced Tran Xuan Hien, 48, to 13 years in prison for attempted murder and illegal use of military weapons.
During the trial, Hien testified that the incident stemmed from anger after a male colleague spread rumors about his relationship with a female staff member at the clinic. "I deeply regret my actions and hope the victim forgives me," Hien stated.

According to the indictment, doctor Hien and a 51-year-old male doctor both worked at a private clinic in Long Khanh Ward. On 23/5/2025, due to a personal dispute, Hien prepared two knives, stormed into his colleague's office, and repeatedly stabbed him in the head and back. Forensic examination confirmed the victim sustained a 19% injury.
The People's Procuracy determined that Hien used two dangerous knives, attacking vital areas of the victim's body with the intent to take his life. Under the Law on Management, Use of Weapons, Explosives and Support Tools 2024 (effective from 1/1/2025), highly lethal knives are classified as military weapons when illegally used to endanger human life or health.
Hien only ceased his attack when others intervened. The victim's survival, thanks to timely emergency medical attention, was contrary to Hien's intention. Consequently, Hien's actions were deemed to constitute attempted murder and illegal use of military weapons.
