Father shields son under moving train in Bangladesh

A father in Bangladesh miraculously saved his one-year-old son by embracing him and pressing against a platform wall as 8 train carriages passed overhead.

The dramatic incident occurred on 28/4 at Bhairab railway station in Bangladesh. A family of three was traveling on the Titas intercity train from Brahmanbaria when a perilous moment unfolded: as the train began to leave the station, the father was disembarking with his child but lost his grip, causing the one-year-old to fall into the gap between the train and the platform.

Without hesitation, the father immediately jumped onto the tracks. He quickly embraced his son and pressed both their bodies against a concrete recess in the platform wall. The father and son remained motionless as 8 train carriages thundered over them. Miraculously, both emerged from the harrowing ordeal unharmed.

Falu Mia, an employee of the Titas train, confirmed the event, noting that the family had attempted to disembark while the train was still in motion. Mia stated, "The father displayed quick reflexes, pressing himself against the partition next to the tracks to preserve both their lives." Sayeed Ahmed, head of the Bhairab railway police station, expressed disbelief: "We thought the father and son could not have survived. When we saw them stand up after the train passed, no one could believe it was true."

The survival was aided by the architectural design of Bhairab station's Platform 1, which features a safety recess beneath the platform edge. The father quickly identified this gap, positioned himself over his child, and pressed tightly against the recess's vertical concrete wall. This quick action prevented them from being struck by the train's underside or its metal wheels.

Immediately after the train cleared, bystanders on the platform rushed to pull the father and son to safety. One passenger took the child for a medical check-up, while others assisted the mother in disembarking safely. Railway officials did not disclose the victims' names but confirmed the family hailed from Lohajuri village, Katiadi town, Kishoreganj district. The child's age was estimated to be one to two years old.

A video capturing the dramatic rescue, filmed by witnesses at the station, is now being widely shared across various social media platforms.
