Millionaire seeks 'rejuvenation' with psychedelic mushrooms

Bryan Johnson, a tech millionaire known for his quest for eternal youth, recently livestreamed himself consuming psychedelic mushrooms to examine their impact on his brain and longevity.

On 30/11, Johnson consumed 5,43 grams of mushrooms, containing approximately 28 mg of psilocybin—a potent hallucinogenic compound—before thousands of online viewers. The livestream lasted 6 hours, documenting all his body's reactions.

In the video, the 47-year-old millionaire described constantly shifting emotions, difficulty communicating, and occasionally lying on a mattress with an eye mask to stabilize his nervous system. His medical team and associate Kate Tolo were present to measure biometric data, assessing whether psilocybin truly supports his goal of extending lifespan.

The livestream also featured online participation from singer Grimes and tech entrepreneurs such as Marc Benioff and Naval Ravikant. Naval quipped, "Bryan is acting as an independent testing agency. I hope he lives a very long time and finds the formula for us to follow."

The basis for this bold experiment stems from a study published this year by Baylor College of Medicine (Texas) and Emory University (Georgia). According to the study, psilocybin has the potential to extend cellular lifespan in some animal species, even when use begins late.

This marks Johnson's second experiment with this type of mushroom. The first occurred in early November but was not publicly disclosed. At that time, he described feeling "like a child" with unusually heightened senses.

In the US, psychedelic mushrooms remain a tightly controlled substance. While some states like Oregon and Colorado have relaxed regulations, in California, where Johnson resides, the use of this substance is not yet fully legalized.

Bryan Johnson epitomizes the "biohacking" movement, which involves self-modifying one's biology. He spends approximately 2 million USD annually on a team of 30 doctors to oversee a rigorous regimen: a vegan diet, high-intensity exercise, and consuming over 100 supplement pills daily. Previously, he sparked controversy by undergoing full plasma exchanges and attempting blood transfusions with his 17-year-old son, but these efforts did not yield desired results.
