The previous week (15/6), Vam Trang Trau Border Post, in coordination with Tay Ninh Police, were patrolling a trail along the Vietnam-Cambodia border when they encountered two individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior crossing from Cambodia into Vietnam illegally.
Upon seeing the border patrol, the two individuals abandoned their motorcycle and a bag and fled back towards Cambodia. Inspecting the scene, officers recovered 18 unmarked, gold-colored metal bars, each measuring approximately 11.5 x 5.1 cm, with a total weight of 18 kg.
The Institute of Criminal Science (Ministry of Public Security) subsequently confirmed the metal to be 99.99% pure gold (Au) with 0.01% silver. The Chau Thanh District Property Valuation Council estimated the value of the gold at over 51.4 billion VND.
