3.6-magnitude earthquake shakes many homes in Cao Bang

A 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck Bao Lac commune, Cao Bang province, on the evening of 30/7, causing houses to shake and residents to rush into the streets.

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center, Institute of Earth Sciences, reported that the earthquake occurred at 7:45 PM. Its epicenter was approximately 10 km deep, located near the Vietnam-China border, about 210 km from Hanoi.

In Bao Lac, near the epicenter, Trieu Thuong recounted feeling her stilt house shake for two to three seconds. Wooden furniture creaked, prompting her entire family to run outside to the yard in fear.

Residents in Tuyen Quang, a province bordering Cao Bang, also reported feeling the tremors during the same period.

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center stated that it is continuing to monitor the earthquake's developments. The disaster risk level has been assessed as 0.

Bao Lac is situated within the Song Gam fault zone, one of the active geological fault zones in Vietnam's Northeast region. Geological studies indicate that this area frequently experiences small to medium earthquakes. While these events rarely cause significant damage, residents often feel the shaking.

Although Vietnam is not located on the boundaries of major tectonic plates, it does have several active fault zones, including Song Gam, Song Hong, Son La, and Lai Chau - Dien Bien. Earthquakes recorded in the country are primarily small to medium in intensity and rarely result in serious damage.
