The fire quickly escalated, sending thick black smoke billowing high and blanketing the entire area. Fishermen attempted to extinguish the flames but were unsuccessful. Their efforts were hampered by the boats' close proximity, intense heat, strong winds, and the significant amount of fuel remaining on board.
Hoang Loi, an eyewitness, described the rapid spread of the fire among the closely anchored boats. "The column of smoke rose high, visible even from afar", he stated.

Local authorities and residents worked together to move nearby vessels, preventing the fire from spreading further, while simultaneously initiating firefighting operations. By 15h30, the blaze was largely contained.
The People's Committee of Quy Nhon Dong ward reported initial estimates of over a dozen fishing boats destroyed, primarily owned by fishermen from Cat Tien commune. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, and authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
