Artillery and missiles must be the pillar of combat power, says president

General Secretary and President To Lam called for the Artillery - Missile Corps to become a pillar of combat power, developing a modern force and mastering technology.

On June 29, the Artillery - Missile Corps Command held a ceremony to celebrate its 80th Traditional Day and receive the First-Class Fatherland Defense Order.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that the establishment of the Artillery - Missile Corps Command, based on the Artillery Arm, in August 2025 marks a significant milestone. This reflects a new vision for building the strength of the Vietnam People's Army.

He directed the Artillery - Missile Corps Command to continue improving its organizational structure, enhancing strategic advisory capabilities, and building a robust artillery - missile posture within the all-people national defense framework. "Modernization is not only about equipping new weapons but also about building modern people, modern organization, modern command, modern training, modern logistics and technology, and modern combat methods," the General Secretary and President stated.

The Party and State leader instructed the force to proactively develop appropriate logistics and technical support methods. They must manage and operate weapons and technical equipment effectively, ensuring durability, safety, and economy. It is crucial to prevent any safety incidents involving personnel, weapons, equipment, storage facilities, information, data, and military secrets.

He also called on the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, research institutes, and defense enterprises to continue coordinating and creating favorable conditions for the Artillery - Missile Corps Command to develop and successfully complete all assigned tasks.

The force needs to collaborate with relevant agencies to gradually master the maintenance, repair, and improvement of weapons, materials, simulations, software, ammunition, and key technologies, meeting the requirements for building a modern army.

Expressing confidence in the force's 80-year tradition, the General Secretary and President affirmed that the Artillery - Missile Corps will continue to achieve many new accomplishments. They are worthy of being the main firepower force and an important component in the proactive defense posture, firmly safeguarding the Fatherland.

Previously, Major General Nguyen Hong Phong, Commander of the Artillery - Missile Corps Command, announced that on June 29, 1946, the Capital Artillery Detachment was established at the Central National Guard Headquarters, 40 Hang Bai (Hanoi). It comprised ba platoons: Lang Fortress, Xuan Tao Fortress, and Xuan Canh Fortress. Since then, June 29 annually has become the Traditional Day of the Artillery - Missile Corps of the Vietnam People's Army.

On the occasion of its 80th Traditional Day, the Artillery - Missile Corps Command was awarded the First-Class Fatherland Defense Order by the State.
