The system, comprising 1,837 AI cameras, not only automatically detects and reports violations but also assists in reporting and resolving 1,283 traffic incidents. This functionality aids operational management and ensures traffic order and safety in the area.
According to the Hanoi traffic police department, during the first six months of 2026, the city's traffic police handled over 171,000 violations. The city experienced 476 traffic accidents, a decrease of 111 incidents compared to the same period last year, with no particularly severe accidents reported.
Hanoi upgraded its traffic control center in late 2025 and deployed over 1,800 AI cameras. The city plans to increase the number of AI cameras to 2,460 at 238 key intersections in the near future. These devices have already been installed, tested, and are awaiting operation.
By 2030, Hanoi aims to install over 40,000 cameras. More than 16,000 of these cameras will be designated for managing traffic safety, environmental monitoring, and urban order.
The AI camera system is trained to identify over 20 common violations. It features 360-degree rotation, facial and license plate recognition, and the ability to detect infringements from a distance of 500-700 meters.
