An ambulance accident on My Thuan expressway injures four people

An ambulance carrying a patient's body collided with a truck on the Trung Luong - My Thuan expressway, injuring four people and causing a 5 km traffic jam on the morning of 16/9.

At approximately 5:20 a.m. on 16/9, an ambulance with a Ho Chi Minh City license plate, transporting a patient's body from a hospital, was traveling on the Trung Luong - My Thuan expressway, heading from Ho Chi Minh City towards the Mekong Delta. Upon reaching My Loi commune in Dong Thap province, the ambulance collided with a Hanoi-plated truck traveling in the same direction ahead.

The collision severely damaged the ambulance's front, shattering its windshield and scattering debris across the road. Four individuals in the ambulance sustained injuries and were transported to a hospital over 5 km away.

The incident led to a prolonged traffic jam on the expressway. By 10 a.m., at the interchange leading to national route 1 in Nhi Quy commune, Dong Thap, expressway management forces were still directing vehicles off onto the national route, causing a traffic queue of approximately 5 km.

According to the expressway management unit, the accident occurred on a section of road with complete signage, a flat and smooth surface, and no obstacles. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by Traffic Police Team 7 and other functional agencies.

The Trung Luong - My Thuan expressway spans 51,5 km, featuring four lanes and a 16 m wide roadway, but it lacks a continuous emergency lane. This route connects the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway with My Thuan 2 bridge. Operational since 4/2022, it currently permits a maximum speed of 90 km/h.

Due to its narrow design, traffic on the expressway easily becomes heavily congested when accidents or vehicle breakdowns occur. The route is currently undergoing expansion to 6-8 lanes to enhance connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta provinces.
