Speaking at the first plenary session of the national election council on 9/7, the national assembly chairman emphasized the importance of the upcoming elections for the 16th national assembly and all-level people's councils for the 2026-2031 term. He described the elections as a crucial political event to select representatives who embody the will and aspirations of the people.

He urged relevant agencies to prepare thoroughly, fostering close coordination between the national election council, the national assembly standing committee, the government, the Vietnam fatherland front, and local authorities. He stressed the importance of strictly adhering to nomination standards and procedures to ensure a reasonable, objective, and compliant candidate structure. "Proper personnel work from the outset will limit complaints and determine the quality of the new national assembly delegates," he said.

The chairman noted that with the district level being phased out in the next term, the roles of provincial and communal levels in the elections will become more significant. "It is necessary to enhance the supervisory role of the people, the Vietnam fatherland front, and socio-political organizations to ensure the election process is substantive and effective," he said. He also called for authorities to promptly address and refute misinformation about the elections, especially online, to bolster voter confidence and foster social consensus.

The council's term concludes after submitting the election summary report and confirming the qualifications of the new national assembly delegates.

As agreed by the national assembly standing committee, the election date for the 16th national assembly and all-level people's councils for the 2026-2031 term will be 15/3/2026.
