On 4/12, Hanoi Social Insurance announced that renewals will be handled by the system, eliminating the need for individuals to visit an office to complete procedures. By regulation, retirees receive free health insurance cards for their entire benefit period, with 95% of medical examination and treatment costs covered by the fund.
From 1/6, the social insurance sector stopped issuing physical cards for new participants. However, existing physical cards with valid terms remain usable. For medical examinations, individuals can present their digital card on either the VssID or VNeID application, or use their chip-embedded citizen identification card, as information has been synchronized.

To integrate a health insurance card into VNeID, users must update the application to its latest version. After logging in, navigate to the "Document Wallet" section, select "Information Integration", create a new request, and enter the card number along with the name of the issuing agency.
For the VssID application, most accounts have already synchronized citizen data. If the new citizen identification card information is displayed, no further action is required. If an old identity card number is still shown, users need to update it online following provided instructions, then visit the nearest social insurance agency for confirmation.
Hanoi Social Insurance warned of recent scams involving individuals impersonating insurance officers. These imposters call people, requesting personal information for "card renewal" or "data update" to appropriate assets. The insurance agency affirms it does not make calls, send messages via platforms like Zalo, or send links or QR codes requesting personal data for card integration or application updates.
Individuals needing to adjust or add information should contact their local social insurance agency directly. Alternatively, they can use the National Public Service Portal and the Vietnam Social Insurance Public Service Portal. All these operations are free of charge.
Nationwide, nearly 3,4 million people currently receive monthly pensions and social insurance benefits. The proportion of the population participating in health insurance reaches approximately 94%, equivalent to over 95,5 million people.
