Boat capsizes during Tet visit, one dead, two missing

A family of seven traveling by boat across the Gianh River for Tet greetings on the morning of 19/2 met with an accident, three rescued, one dead, and two missing.

Around 10:30 on 19/2, a family of seven from Tan Hoa village, Tuyen Binh commune, took a boat across the Gianh River to Lac Son village, Tuyen Hoa commune, for Tet greetings. About 30 meters from shore, the boat suddenly sank.

Cao Huu Tinh, 48, from Truong Long village, Tan Giang commune, stated that he and his two sons were boating upstream on the Gianh River to visit relatives when they saw people on the other side of the river waving for help. Suspecting someone was drowning, he sped up, traveling about one kilometer to the scene.

His two sons jumped into the water, rescuing three survivors and one child in critical condition. They also brought ashore an elderly woman who had died.

According to the rescued individuals, there were seven people on the boat, and two are still missing. Tinh noted that the accident area has sand dredging activity, making the water deep. Despite his two sons diving to search, they could not find the remaining victims.

Authorities and local residents are continuing to search for the two missing people.
