According to the Traffic Police Department (TPD) under the Ministry of Public Security, traffic police inspected over 36,700 vehicles, primarily cars and motorbikes, between 10h and 14h. These checks identified and recorded 809 cases of alcohol violations. Further inspections were scheduled for 19h-23h on the same day.
This marked the first time that alcohol violation enforcement was simultaneously implemented nationwide on the first day of the Tet holiday.
Decree 168/2024 imposes severe penalties for alcohol violations, with fines reaching up to 40 million VND for cars and 10 million VND for motorbikes. Additionally, driver's licenses can be suspended for up to 24 months. Penalties are determined by blood or breath alcohol levels, and include an additional penalty of deducting points from the driver's license.
