The body was discovered around 2:30 p.m. on 26/7 near Hang Trong in Ha Long Bay, about 10 km from where the boat capsized. Due to the body's condition, authorities conducted DNA testing, which confirmed the identity as Thai.
On 19/7, Thai, his wife, and two children boarded the Vinh Xanh 58 for a tour of Ha Long Bay. Around 1:30 p.m., the boat encountered a sudden storm and capsized, throwing 46 passengers and three crew members into the sea.

Thai gave his life jacket to his 10-year-old son before disappearing. His son, trapped inside the overturned hull, was rescued by two rescuers at 5:55 p.m. Thai's wife and daughter perished in the accident.
On 23/7, at the National Children's Hospital, Major General Tran Van Phuc, Director of Quang Ninh Provincial Police Department, visited and provided 200 million VND in support to Thai's son, pledging to support him until adulthood.
The Vinh Xanh capsizing resulted in 39 deaths, marking the deadliest boat accident in northern Vietnam.
