Around 10 am, Tran Quoc Dat, residing in Binh Co ward (old Binh Duong area), climbed a roof over 4 meters high to bring a cat down. While moving on the corrugated iron roof, he slipped, falling into a narrow gap over 20 centimeters wide between two walls.

The boy became trapped on a concrete foundation located between the two houses – the site of an old fence dividing the two plots of land – about 2 meters from the open space behind. Nearby residents attempted to reach him but could not pull him out because he cried out in pain.
After nearly 20 minutes, the Fire Prevention, Fighting, and Rescue Police Team Area 32 (Ho Chi Minh City Police) dispatched six officers along with specialized equipment to the scene.
Initially, authorities considered using hydraulic cutters and wall-breaking drills. However, fearing harm to the victim, they changed their approach. Officers used cooking oil to lubricate the boy's body, combined with ropes and their hands to pull him out. They also reassured him and provided water to maintain his strength.
