Around midnight on 25/4, a tourist bus with a Son La license plate, carrying 39 passengers, was traveling on provincial road 155.
The bus overturned on its side while passing through Lao Vang Chai village, Coc San commune. The accident resulted in two people on the bus suffering serious injuries: one with a broken collarbone and shoulder blade, and another with a broken rib.
At the scene, the overturned bus blocked provincial road 155, causing a traffic jam. Many people helped break the windshield to assist passengers in escaping the vehicle.
Investigations by authorities confirmed the 37-year-old driver, from Son La, was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Preliminary findings suggest the driver's unfamiliarity with the road, specifically a continuous downhill and curved section, led to the bus colliding with a culvert wall on the right side of the road.
Provincial road 155 is a vital route connecting the center of Lao Cai province with Sa Pa. It has been upgraded to alleviate traffic on national highway 4D.
