Capital streets gridlocked day and night

In the days leading up to Tet Binh Ngo 2026, Hanoi's streets experienced prolonged gridlock, especially on major ring roads and arterial routes.

At 2:50 p.m. on 9/2, Nguyen Khoai dike road, Vinh Tuy ward, experienced a traffic jam stretching over 500 m near Vinh Tuy Bridge.

Vehicles lined up heading towards the inner city on Vinh Tuy Bridge. Most bridges spanning the Red River were also congested.

Ring Road 3, the section passing through Le Van Luong, Thanh Xuan ward, both elevated and ground levels, was packed with vehicles at 3 p.m. on 9/2.

Routes like elevated Ring Road 3, Pham Hung, Khuat Duy Tien, and Nguyen Xien were consistently busy in both directions, entering and exiting the city. Along the Lang - Truong Chinh - Nguyen Trai - Khuat Duy Tien axis, vehicle density was high. Persistent rain from early morning further complicated travel.

On Nguyen Trai street, residents transporting peach blossom and kumquat trees weaved through traffic to make deliveries. Hoang Van Bon stated that a journey of over 3 km took more than 40 minutes to reach the delivery point.

Residents carrying peach blossom branches waited at a red light on Truong Chinh street at 5 p.m. today.

Tomorrow is Ong Cong Ong Tao (Kitchen Gods') Day, and people carrying votive offerings queued on Xa Dan street.

Persistent rain hit the capital during the 8 a.m. rush hour, reducing visibility and causing vehicles to move erratically on Xa Dan street. Ten hours later, the rain stopped, but congestion remained. Cars and motorbikes formed long queues stretching to Dai Co Viet street.

At 7:50 p.m. on Hoang Hoa Tham street, Ba Dinh ward, cars occupied the opposing lane, making it difficult for motorbike riders to pass.

At 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. today, the section of Truong Chinh street passing through Nga Tu So was packed with vehicles. This intersection is always busy, becoming even more congested nearing Tet.

At 7:40 p.m., on Nguyen Trai street heading towards Ha Dong ward, thousands of vehicles moved in long lines, with congestion occurring at intersections.
