According to an announcement from the third plenum of the 14th Party Central Committee on the afternoon of 24/7, the Central Committee assigned the Politburo, based on the nomination results, to officially introduce the candidate for Minister of Home Affairs. This candidate will be submitted to the National Assembly for approval at its first extraordinary session, scheduled for early August.

Four days prior, Nguyen Tien Hai, a Party Central Committee member and Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee, was appointed by the Prime Minister as acting Minister of Home Affairs. He replaced Do Thanh Binh, who was reassigned. Hai, 61 years old and originally from Ca Mau, holds a Master's degree in public administration and a Bachelor's degree in law. He is a member of the 13th and 14th Party Central Committees and a National Assembly deputy for the 16th term.

Hai began his career in youth union activities in the former Minh Hai province. He successively held positions including Chairman of the Provincial Children's Council, Secretary of the U Minh District Youth Union, Head of the Ideology and Culture Department of the Minh Hai Provincial Youth Union, Deputy Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Youth Union, and Chairman of the Ca Mau Provincial Youth Union Federation.

In 2001, he transitioned to working in the Ca Mau provincial administration, serving in various capacities: Chief of Staff of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Cai Nuoc District Party Committee, Director of the Department of Justice, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

In 7/2020, he became Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee. In early 2025, the Politburo transferred and appointed him as Secretary of the Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee. Following the merger of Kien Giang and An Giang in 7/2025, he was further appointed as Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee.

At the 14th Party Congress in January, he was re-elected as a Party Central Committee member. Three months later, he was elected as a National Assembly deputy for the 16th term and became Head of the An Giang Provincial National Assembly Delegation.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is a government agency responsible for state management in areas such as: administrative apparatus organization, local government, cadres, civil servants, public employees, labor, wages, social insurance, employment, people with meritorious services, youth, gender equality, emulation and commendation, clerical work, archiving, and various other fields.

Assisting acting Minister Nguyen Tien Hai are six deputy ministers: Vu Chien Thang, Truong Hai Long, Cao Huy, Nguyen Van Hoi, Nguyen Manh Khuong, and Nguyen Thi Ha.
