On the morning of 2/7, at the Pham Van Bach station construction site, near the Cong Hoa - Truong Chinh intersection, contractors lowered the first steel cages into the excavation pit to construct the 1,2 m thick diaphragm walls. This critical component of the station structure marks the project's transition from its preparatory phase to main construction.
According to the Management Authority for Urban Railways of Ho Chi Minh City (MAUR), the project's investor, the diaphragm walls at Pham Van Bach station will span approximately 534 m and be constructed to a depth of 41 m, with completion expected in 6 months. During construction, the diaphragm walls will retain soil and water, ensuring the stability of the excavation pit. Once the station is complete, these walls will become an integral part of the structure's load-bearing system.

Pham Van Bach station is located at the gateway to Tan Son Nhat Airport. It is the last underground station before metro line two transitions to an elevated section at Tan Binh station. The station is designed with two underground levels, comprising ticketing areas, functional rooms, and passenger pick-up/drop-off zones.
MAUR stated that diaphragm wall construction requires high technical standards, strict material quality control, and labor safety. As the construction site is on a heavily trafficked road, the investor has implemented barricades, traffic diversion, and site arrangements to minimize congestion and disruption to residents' daily lives.
Phan Cong Bang, Head of MAUR, stated that Pham Van Bach station and Le Thi Rieng station on Cach Mang Thang Tam street are the two locations where tunnel boring machines (TBMs) will be installed to construct the metro line two tunnel section. Consequently, these two stations are being prioritized for early implementation, with a target completion in Q3/2027 to facilitate TBM installation and operation.

MAUR leadership acknowledges that simultaneous construction across the project may impact residents' travel, particularly along the Cach Mang Thang Tam axis. The investor will coordinate with relevant agencies to organize traffic diversion and regulation during each construction phase.
The Ben Thanh - Tham Luong metro project commenced in mid-January, with a total capital exceeding VND 55,000 billion. The line spans nearly 11,3 km, starting at Ben Thanh station and ending at Tham Luong depot, with over 9 km running underground. The entire line features 10 underground stations, one elevated station, and one depot.
The project is expected to be completed in 2030, creating a mass transit axis connecting central Ho Chi Minh City with the city's northwestern area.
