Authorities recovered the body of Nguyen Van Hon, 41, near the fish rafts on the river at noon on 19/9, following the discovery of his son Nguyen Nhat Hao’s body, 12, earlier that morning. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on 18/9, when Hon and his son were on their fish raft in Long Chau hamlet, Long Khanh commune.
Upon seeing his son electrocuted, Hon immediately rushed to save him. However, both were affected by the electric current and fell into the river.

Hon’s wife, who was nearby, attempted to cut the power by switching off a circuit breaker. However, the electricity was not fully disconnected, and she also suffered an electric shock. Two owners of adjacent fish rafts heard cries for help and attempted to assist Hon’s wife; however, one of them also suffered an electric shock. The electrical hazard only stopped once the main circuit breaker was disconnected.
Hon’s wife and the two fish raft owners later recovered.
Heavy rains and rising river levels had complicated the search efforts for the victims. The bodies of Hon and his son were handed over to their family for funeral arrangements that same day. Long Khanh commune authorities have since visited the family to offer condolences and initial support.
