On 31/12, the Ministry of National Defense held a ceremony to present the president's decisions to four Vietnam People's Army officers undertaking United Nations peacekeeping missions.
Lieutenant Colonel Vu Thi Lien, assistant to the Training Department, Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, will serve as a security and defense policy expert at the United Nations Liaison Office for Peace and Security in Brussels, Belgium.
The three other officers will serve with the MINUSCA mission in the Central African Republic. These officers are: Lieutenant Colonel Dang Thu Ha, former editor of Quan Doi Nhan Dan Newspaper, as a communication officer; Captain Nguyen Huy Khai, foreign affairs assistant at Military Hospital 175, as an equipment staff officer; and First Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram, an officer of the Vietnam Coast Guard, as a training staff officer.

Major General Pham Manh Thang, director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, stated that all officers completed the required United Nations training courses. This included overseas training to enhance their professional capabilities for their respective positions at the missions.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, deputy minister of national defense, urged the officers to quickly adapt to their assigned areas upon deployment and effectively carry out their duties. He emphasized the importance of improving their ability to analyze and forecast situations, reporting promptly to provide a basis for the Ministry of National Defense to strategize future force deployments.
To date, Vietnam has sent 1,066 personnel to participate in peacekeeping missions at three missions and the United Nations Headquarters. The MINUSCA mission, established in 4/2014, currently includes 43 participating nations, with its primary tasks being to protect civilians and support the transition of power in the Central African Republic.
