Around 8 a.m., three workers were repairing the metal roof behind Gas Station Number 1 on Le Duan Street, Chieng Sinh Ward, Son La City. One worker was welding on the roof while two others assisted from below.

Sparks from the welding ignited a nearby gasoline tank, causing a loud explosion that could be heard several kilometers away.

Mr. Lo Phong Nam, Chairman of Chieng Sinh Ward, confirmed that the explosion killed Lo Van Quan, 39, a Son La City resident, instantly. Two other workers were injured.

Several metal sheets were blown off, and a section of the workshop behind the gas station was severely damaged. The strong smell of gasoline permeated the air.

The Son La Province Police Department's fire prevention and fighting police, along with other professional units, quickly extinguished the fire and sealed off the area to investigate the cause.
