At 2:15 PM on 8/8, ship HQ 629 of Navy Region 3 located Truong Thi Phuong, 24, at sea, approximately two nautical miles (3,7 km) from Mui Nghe. Personnel deployed a life buoy and swam to bring her safely aboard.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Khac Cu, Head of the Propaganda Department for Navy Region 3, stated that the victim did not know how to swim and was not wearing a life vest. Fortunately, she managed to cling to an old fishing buoy drifting at sea.
After her rescue, Phuong received a health check, was warmed, and given food and drink. Her condition stabilized. She remained on the ship as Navy forces continued searching for the two still-missing individuals.

Around 6 AM on the same day, a group of six young people walked to Mui Nghe, Son Tra ward, Da Nang City, to take photos. Three 24-year-old women, Truong Thi Phuong, Mai Thi Phuong, and Tran Thi Anh Duong, slipped and were swept out to sea by waves. Nguyen Thai, 30, who jumped in to rescue them, was also carried away by the current.
The remaining two members, Truong Van Dong, 20, and Vu Hong Cam, 19, were unharmed and called for help.
Upon receiving the report at 7:30 AM, the Son Tra Border Post mobilized fishing boats near the area for the search and informed Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center 2.
Around 8 AM, Nguyen Phu Hong's fishing boat rescued Thai and transferred him to SAR 274 for medical care. He was later taken to Da Nang Hospital for observation due to post-drowning pneumonia.
Five members of the group reside in Thang Binh commune, Da Nang City; Cam lives in Binh Long commune, Quang Ngai province.
Mui Nghe, located at the easternmost point of the Son Tra peninsula, is approximately 21 km from central Da Nang. The area attracts many visitors for its scenery and a natural water area known as the "infinity pool," but it features many jagged rocks, complex tides, and strong currents.
The Border Guard, Navy Region 3, and related units are expanding the search area for Mai Thi Phuong and Tran Thi Anh Duong.
