Previously, on 16-17/11, unusually heavy rainfall caused a severe landslide on the stream slope behind the Hung Vuong street residential area. The landslide measured approximately 170 m long, 30 m wide, and 15 m deep, destroying over 5,000 m2 of land. The incident damaged the rear sections of two houses and threatened the safety of 10 others, forcing 12 households, comprising 47 people, to evacuate immediately.
Regarding this incident, the Prime Minister repeatedly criticized Quang Tri province. On the morning of 9/12, during a national meeting to launch the "Quang Trung Campaign", the Prime Minister severely reprimanded local authorities for their inaction in addressing the landslide and demanded an immediate report that same day. On the afternoon of 13/12, during a direct working session with Quang Tri province and various ministries and agencies, the Prime Minister issued a second criticism. Subsequently, he instructed the local government to review and address the responsibilities of involved collectives and individuals, and to report to higher authorities.

On 15/12, Quang Tri province commenced construction of the landslide prevention retaining wall, with a total investment of 18 billion dong. The Quang Tri Department of Construction is the investor for this project. The project mobilized approximately 260 soldiers, along with 29 vehicles and mechanical equipment, to work continuously under a "three shifts, four teams" system.
By the afternoon of 27/12, after 11 days of construction, the earthen retaining wall behind the 12 houses in hamlet 3A was largely completed, ensuring conditions for residents to return. After 41 days of evacuation, all 12 households in Khe Sanh commune have returned to their homes.
