Government recognizes 49 Saigon commandos as martyrs 58 years after their sacrifice

Fifty-eight years after their sacrifice, the government has officially recognized 49 Saigon commando soldiers who died in 1968 as martyrs, granting them "Fatherland Acknowledges Merits" certificates following a proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to a resolution issued on 30/1, the government decided to recognize as martyrs and grant "Fatherland Acknowledges Merits" certificates to 49 commando soldiers of the Saigon - Gia Dinh Military Region. These soldiers died while undertaking secret missions in 1968.

The government has assigned the Ministry of Home Affairs to lead and coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and relevant agencies in implementing this resolution.

On 4/1, at the Ho Chi Minh City Martyrs' Cemetery in Long Binh ward, the City Party Committee and Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, in coordination with the City High Command and related units, inaugurated a memorial stele. This monument honors the Saigon - Gia Dinh commando cadres and soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Tet Mau Than 1968 Offensive and Uprising. Construction for the project began in 2/2025.
