On 19/5, the Da Nang City People's Committee (DPC) and Da Nang International Terminal Investment and Operation Joint Stock Company (AHT) commenced the expansion project for the international passenger terminal (T2 terminal) at Da Nang International Airport.
The project is being developed across an area of 3,600 square meters, increasing the total land area utilized by Da Nang airport after expansion to 21,085 square meters.
According to the design, the check-in area will expand from 54 to 85 counters. The number of departure gates with jet bridges will increase from four to seven, reducing the need for passengers to use buses. The new generation baggage handling system is also being upgraded, with arrival carousels increasing from two to four, and departure carousels from four to six.

The project implements an expansion and restructuring design based on the existing terminal's "Seagull Wings" theme. The roof of the expanded area mimics the original roof profile, creating the image of a flock of seagulls in flight.
Inside the building, biophilic design principles are applied, incorporating green spaces, natural light, and integrated ventilation into the interior. The project utilizes inverter technology and Variable Air Volume (VAV) control for the air conditioning system to conserve energy.
Upon completion, the T2 terminal's design capacity will increase to 6 million passengers per year, meeting growth demands for the 2026-2030 period.
Today's groundbreaking ceremony marks the initial step towards realizing the plan for two international airports in one city, comprising Da Nang and Chu Lai, by 2030, with a vision to 2050. Da Nang airport will serve as a gateway for tourism, high-quality services, and a central urban hub, while Chu Lai is earmarked for logistics, cargo transport, and aviation industry development.
By 2030, the city will boast two international airports with a combined design capacity of 25 million passengers, fostering economic growth and establishing Da Nang as a dynamic transit hub in Asia.

Ho The Anh, General Director of AHT, stated that in this new phase, the company aims to develop the terminal as a "resort-terminal", embodying the relaxed spirit of a tourist city. The company continues to collaborate with consultants, architects, and artists to integrate local culture and art into every space, allowing passengers to experience the essence of Quang region, Central Vietnam, and Vietnamese culture immediately upon arrival at the airport.
Exactly nine years ago, the T2 terminal was inaugurated to serve the APEC 2017 high-level week. The decision to expand was made as the terminal consistently operated beyond its design capacity of 4 million passengers per year. Specifically, in 2019, the terminal welcomed over 7.1 million passengers, exceeding capacity by 79%. In 2024 and 2025, passenger traffic is projected to remain high, reaching 6.18 million and 6.81 million passengers, respectively.
Da Nang International Terminal is owned and operated by Da Nang International Terminal Investment and Operation Joint Stock Company (AHT). It is the only terminal in Vietnam to have achieved Skytrax 5-star standard certification for three consecutive years (2024, 2025, and 2026).
