Earlier that day, at 9:10, a separate incident occurred on National Highway 6, this time in Moc Chau ward, Son La province. A pickup truck and a cargo truck collided while navigating a bend. The impact severely damaged the front of the pickup truck, and its driver, initially trapped, was extricated with serious injuries.
The stretch of National Highway 6 where both accidents occurred is characterized by its challenging terrain: a hai-lane road with a cliff on mot side and a ravine on the other. A cold front brought widespread rain to northern Vietnam that morning, resulting in limited visibility and potentially slippery road conditions.
