On the evening of 23/4, the Hanoi Department of Construction announced the waiver of public passenger transport fares for two separate holiday periods. The first period coincides with the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day holiday, lasting three days from 25/4 to 27/4. The second period covers the Reunification Day (30/4) and International Workers' Day (1/5/2026) holidays, extending for four days from 30/4 to 3/5.
Residents and tourists can travel for free on 128 subsidized bus routes and two urban railway lines: the Cat Linh - Ha Dong line and the elevated section of the Nhon - Cau Giay line.
During the free travel period, bus passengers will still receive single-journey tickets corresponding to each route's fare, but they will not be required to pay. For routes currently piloting electronic ticketing, passengers will receive electronic single-journey tickets from POS machines.
For urban railways, passengers can obtain zero-VND tickets at ticket counters based on their travel needs or purchase zero-VND tickets through the existing Hanoi Metro applications.

According to the Hanoi Department of Construction, the fare waiver aims to ensure social welfare, boost public morale, and encourage the use of public transport. This initiative also contributes to reducing traffic congestion during the holiday periods.
Hanoi has previously implemented similar free bus and metro ticket policies during prior holidays. Most recently, during the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year, the city offered free subsidized public transport for eight days.
Hanoi currently operates 154 bus routes, with 128 of them receiving subsidies. Single-journey bus fares range from 8,000-20,000 VND, depending on the distance. Urban railway single-journey fares on Line 2A Cat Linh - Ha Dong and Line 3 Nhon - Ha Noi Station vary from 9,000 to 19,000 VND.
