Around 13h, the sky over many central Ho Chi Minh City streets grew dark, followed by heavy rain. The downpour lasted over 10 minutes before gradually subsiding. On Nam Ky Khoi Nghia street (formerly District 1), many motorcyclists struggled to navigate through the heavy rain; others without raincoats sought temporary shelter under residential awnings along the route.

According to the Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Center, the rain is a result of an intensifying cold front combined with disturbances in the easterly wind belt. This phenomenon caused rain in many areas of formerly District 1, District 2, District 7, and the suburban areas of Binh Chanh and Nha Be.
By late afternoon the same day, convective clouds continued to develop, with moderate to heavy rain likely in many parts of Ho Chi Minh City. As the unseasonal rain may be accompanied by strong disturbances, the meteorological agency advises residents to prepare for thunderstorms, lightning, and hail.
