Nationwide heatwave expected next week

A developing and expanding western hot low-pressure system is set to bring widespread, prolonged heat across the country, with temperatures in many areas exceeding 38 degrees Celsius.

Starting 6/4, a western hot low-pressure system will continue to develop and expand eastward, causing a heatwave to spread across the entire Northern region, including the plains. Peak temperatures are forecast to range from 35-37 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 38 degrees, and this is expected to persist until the end of the week. The Northwest region already experienced a heatwave today.

According to US-based AccuWeather, temperatures in Hanoi next week will fluctuate between 26-38 degrees Celsius. High-altitude mountainous areas above 1500 meters, such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai), will see temperatures between 17-30 degrees Celsius.

Over the past ba days, the Central region has experienced widespread heat due to the combined influence of the western hot low-pressure area and Fohn winds. Early next week, from Thanh Hoa to eastern Gia Lai, hot and intense heat will persist, with common temperatures of 36-38 degrees Celsius, and some areas exceeding 39 degrees.

Low humidity, typically 40-45%, increases the risk of forest fires and explosions in residential areas and workshops. This situation is forecast to continue until the end of the week.

In the Southern region, the heatwave has persisted for many days with no signs of abating. Peak temperatures generally range from 35-37 degrees Celsius, with some locations experiencing even higher readings. The Central Highlands will also remain dry and hot in the early days of the week, with similar temperature levels.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, for 4/2026, heatwaves are expected to intensify nationwide, becoming more severe than the multi-year average. Average temperatures in the Northern region and the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue are forecast to be 1,5-2,5 degrees Celsius higher than the multi-year average; other regions will see temperatures approximately 0,5-1,5 degrees Celsius higher.
