According to the Ho Chi Minh City government, the Reunification Monument will be a highly symbolic sculpture designed to embody the nation's yearning for peace and reunification. It will also honor the sacrifices of generations of Vietnamese soldiers and civilians. The monument will also express gratitude for the international support given to the nation's just struggle.
The monument will also symbolize Vietnam's will and pride as it enters a new era, aspiring to build a civilized, prosperous, and beautiful country.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has assigned the Management Board of Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Projects as the investor to organize the monument design competition. The competition is open to all domestic organizations and individuals and will be conducted in two rounds. The organizing budget is nearly 2.7 billion VND from the city's budget.
The jury will select three outstanding designs for exhibition and public feedback, with prizes awarded: first prize 200 million VND, second prize 150 million VND, and third prize 100 million VND. All valid entries will receive 20 million VND in support. The anonymity of contestants' submissions will be preserved to ensure objectivity.

The monument will have a modern design that is easily understood, unique, and harmonious with the landscape of the central lake park and neighboring structures such as the Thu Thiem Central Square, the Riverside Park, and the Tran Hung Dao Monument on the District 1 side of the river.
The Thu Thiem New Urban Area, planned since 1996, covers 930 ha, including 770 ha for the new urban area and 160 ha for resettlement. Located on the east bank of the Saigon River, opposite District 1, the project is envisioned as the city's future center for finance, commerce, and high-end services.
Despite the approval and investment in large-scale projects such as the Ho Chi Minh City Exhibition Center, the pedestrian bridge, and the Children's Palace, the area's infrastructure remains incomplete after nearly 30 years of development.
