Hue to build railway overpass to reduce congestion at northern gateway

Hue City to construct railway overpass at ring road 3 and national highway 1A junction to ease northern gateway congestion.

On 9/5, the Hue City Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transport Works announced an adjusted total investment for the Ring Road 3 project, increasing from 750 billion VND to over 1,600 billion VND for phases 2 and 3. This increase primarily funds the construction of a North-South railway overpass at the junction of National Highway 1A and Nguyen Van Linh Road in Huong An ward.

The overpass, designed with four lanes and eight beam spans, will stretch over 292 meters in length and 17.5 meters in width. This structure is a key component of the 6.5-kilometer Ring Road 3, connecting National Highway 1A with National Highway 49A. Its starting point on Nguyen Van Linh Road will traverse the North-South railway and National Highway 1A, linking to the northern segment of Ring Road 3.

The Project Management Board highlighted the intersection's current high traffic density, attributed to its proximity to the Northern Bus Station and its role as a key gateway to central Hue City. With Ring Road 3's completion, traffic volume is projected to rise sharply. Without the railway overpass, the area faces a significant risk of congestion and safety hazards.

A representative from the Project Management Board stated, "Ring Road 3 is poised to become a vital traffic artery, redirecting volume from National Highway 1A, which currently traverses the city center. This overpass will significantly reduce congestion and enhance traffic safety at the junction."

The Ring Road 3 project traverses Huong An, Kim Long, and Thuy Xuan wards, connecting National Highway 1A with National Highway 49A. Phase 1 successfully completed Nguyen Hoang Bridge over the Perfume River, an investment exceeding 1,550 billion VND. Currently, work is underway on expanding Nguyen Hoang Road and constructing An Ninh Ha Bridge across the Bach Yen River.

Phase 2, approximately 2.25 kilometers long, will connect Nguyen Van Linh Road to Ly Nam De Road and include the construction of three reinforced concrete bridges over canals.

Phase 3, extending about 3.6 kilometers, will link the Perfume River overpass area on Bui Thi Xuan Road to National Highway 49A on Vo Van Kiet Road. The complete Ring Road 3 will feature a 43-meter-wide cross-section, incorporating integrated lighting, landscaping, and sidewalks.
