On 1/7, while driving on national highway 17 through Yen Dung ward, Bac Ninh province, the owner of a Ford Everest with license plate 98A-626.86 spotted an electric vehicle displaying the same license plate. The driver then stopped the vehicle, recorded a video, and contacted authorities.
Following vehicle registration data, traffic police confirmed that license plate 98A-626.86 belonged to a black Ford Everest. The electric vehicle was using a fake license plate.
The driver of the electric vehicle, residing in Yen Dung ward, Bac Ninh province, confessed to police that he had purchased a used car without transferring its ownership. He admitted to ordering the fake license plate online to use the vehicle for circulation.

On 8/7, the Bac Ninh Provincial Police Traffic Police Department announced that they had issued a citation to the electric vehicle driver for two violations: operating a vehicle with a license plate not issued by a competent authority and operating a vehicle without a registration certificate. The offender faces a total fine of 44 million VND, a deduction of 10 driver's license points, and confiscation of the fake license plate.
According to Decree 168/2024, the act of attaching a license plate not issued by a competent authority can result in a fine of up to 26 million VND and a deduction of 10 driver's license points. Offenders may also face criminal charges if they forge documents or license plates, or handle stolen vehicles. Operating a vehicle without a registration certificate carries a fine of 16-18 million VND for individuals and 32-36 million VND for organizations.
