Hundreds of homes collapsed, roofs blown off after storm

A morning storm on 23/7 swept through several communes and wards in Dong Thap, causing hundreds of houses to collapse or lose their roofs, injuring at least 9 people.

The storm hit around 4 a.m., causing widespread destruction to houses along provincial road 846 in My Ngai and Ba Sao wards (formerly part of Cao Lanh City and Cao Lanh District). Houses collapsed, roofs were torn off, and gardens were damaged.

Even sturdy houses had their roofs blown off and walls toppled. Household items were swept away by the wind.

Tran Thi Thuy Linh, whose house lost its roof, said the storm was very quick, lasting only about 30 seconds. "I heard a rumbling sound and thought it was a container truck. My husband opened the door to look and was blown back into the bedroom by the wind, injuring his leg. I clung to the bedroom door, wanting to find my child but couldn't move," Linh recounted.

Thuy Lieu's sturdy house had its roof torn off and walls collapsed, while her parents-in-law's house behind it was completely destroyed.

Lieu was devastated as the house, her life savings, was severely damaged.

Nguyen Van De's house was completely destroyed, while the homes of relatives nearby were also heavily damaged. "I don't know where we will sleep tonight," De said.

Kim Huong was in shock after witnessing the morning storm and received medical attention from ward health workers.

Residents moved their goats after their homes and barns were severely damaged in the storm.

Many items were blown into trees by the strong winds.

Corrugated iron sheets were blown into the rice fields along provincial road 846.

Residents, local authorities, and soldiers cleaned up after the storm.

Many wooden and corrugated iron houses were completely destroyed. Local authorities, soldiers, and residents are working together to clean up the affected areas. Vo Phan Thanh Minh, Secretary of My Ngai Ward, said that the elderly and children will be temporarily housed at the school while their homes are repaired. Additionally, some families facing financial difficulties will receive financial support to address the damage.
