The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) announced this development during a meeting with the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee (PPC) on 25/11. This timeline shortens the planned closure period by two months compared to earlier estimates.
The project, valued at over 966 billion dong, includes constructing a new runway measuring 3,250 m long and 45 m wide. It also involves renovating taxiways, improving the drainage system, and building equipment foundations for flight operations. Following completion, ACV will conduct calibration flights before reopening the airport.

Nguyen Hong Hai, Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong PPC, urged ACV to ensure adequate personnel and equipment are ready for immediate construction once the airport closes. He also requested the swift implementation of the T2 terminal and a dedicated cargo terminal to enhance the province's aviation infrastructure.
Lien Khuong Airport, located in Duc Trong commune, 28 km from Da Lat city center, was built in 1933. It has undergone several upgrades, most recently in 1997, when its runway was extended to 2,354 m, meeting ICAO 3C standards.
According to the development plan through 2030, Lien Khuong Airport will achieve level 4E classification, enabling it to handle large aircraft like the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350. It is projected to serve five million passengers and 20,000 tons of cargo annually. Subsequent plans include extending the runway to 3,600 m and increasing capacity to seven million passengers. All infrastructure will be synchronized with the T2 terminal, an aircraft maintenance area, a cargo terminal, and a fuel station, establishing Lien Khuong as the primary aviation gateway for the Central Highlands region.
