Mother and son drown in canal

Rescue forces discovered the bodies of a mother and son at the bottom of a canal in Quang Dien commune after finding their sandals left at the water's edge.

The bodies of Ms. Tran Thi Thu, aged 64, and her son, Mr. Hoang Trong Cu, aged 43, were found in a canal in Quang Dien commune. The discovery came after a neighbor reported suspicious circumstances to local authorities, leading to a search operation.

On the afternoon of 17/6, Ms. Hoang Thi Le, residing in An Xuan Tay village, visited the home of Ms. Thu and Mr. Cu after returning from a memorial service. Upon arrival, Ms. Le did not find the mother and son inside the house, so she searched the surroundings. At the water's edge behind the house, she discovered three plastic sandals, identified as belonging to Ms. Thu and her son. Suspecting something was amiss, she reported it to the local security and order team.

Both mother and son had exhibited symptoms of mental illness and lived together.
