On 8/6, Le Van Duy, Deputy Director of the Hoa Lu Ward Investment and Construction Project Management Board, announced that over the past four days, the construction unit expanding Tay Thanh road had discovered nearly 40 fetal remains.
The initial remains were found when workers excavated to widen the roadbed passing the former Ninh Binh Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. These remains were located at a depth of 20-50 cm underground, wrapped in nylon bags or placed in small ceramic jars.
Between 7-9h today, excavator operators continued to find an additional 3-5 fetal remains near a large tree root.

In addition to the fetal remains, authorities also found several ceramic jars suspected of containing human remains buried many years ago. However, due to the extensive passage of time, most no longer contained bone fragments inside.
According to local authorities, the project area was previously a cemetery. Later, it served as a funeral home for medical facilities in the former TP Ninh Binh area. This is believed to be the reason many remains were still present underground.
Upon discovery, all remains were collected by workers in coordination with the local Cemetery Management Board, re-wrapped in burial cloths, and placed into ceramic jars for ceremonial rites before reburial.
According to Le Van Duy, Deputy Director of the Hoa Lu Ward Investment and Construction Project Management Board, the discovery of numerous remains has impacted the project's construction schedule.
"Given the spiritual considerations, the construction unit must proceed with extreme caution, carefully removing thin layers of soil to avoid disturbing the remains and ensuring no sites within the project area are overlooked," Duy stated.

The Tay Thanh road expansion project spans nearly 550 m, with a width of 10.5 m and sidewalks 5 m wide on each side. The total investment is more than 18.3 billion VND. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
